As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. I Timothy 6:17 (ESV)

Those who are financially rich in this world must be careful and guard against thinking that they are better than or more important than those people who do not have the financial wealth that they have. Do not mistake enjoyment with fulfillment as it will lead one astray. Fulfillment comes from God.

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. Romans 8:28,29 (ESV)

God makes all things to be beneficial if we love him. Even when we stray from following him, he urges us to repent. He has predestined that we will be like Jesus in our character and God uses experiences in this life to test us so that we will have opportunities to develop Christ-likeness and learn what areas we need to develop in to be more like Jesus.

And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, … Genesis 3:8a (ESV)

God desired to interact with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Even today God desires to connect with us in a meaningful way and for us to walk in his ways.
Slide 1
… and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. 1 John 1:3b (ESV)

God desired to interact with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Even today God desires to connect with us in a meaningful way and for us to walk in his ways.
Slide 1
God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 1 John 1:5b-6 (ESV)

God is pure and holy and has absolutely no unholiness in him. We are lying to ourselves and others if we contend that we are walking in fellowship with God while we embrace sinful desires, attitudes and actions and refuse to repent.
Slide 1
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:7 (ESV)

If we walk in the light of God’s ways and truth as he does, we will experience fellowship with other believers. Our lives will be cleansed of the stains that sin has brought and we will progressively walk more and more in God’s ways.
Slide 1
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. 1 John 1:9,10 (ESV)

If we are willing to confess our act of rebellion against God’s authority over our life, then we can be sure that God will forgive us and that he will work in our life to remove the sinful desires, attitudes, and actions that have control over us. If we say that we have not sinned, then we are actually calling God a liar.
Slide 1
My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. 1 John 2:1,2 (ESV)

The apostle John wrote these words to encourage believers not to sin. However, if we do choose to sin at times, we should be assured that Jesus is working on our behalf in conversation with God about us. Jesus’ death on the cross was full payment for the debt that we owed to God because of our rebellion against his authority in our life.
Slide 1
And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: 1 John 2:3-5 (ESV)

The evidence that we have come to know God is that we keep his commandments. It does not mean that we have currently reached the point where we are always obedient, but we should see a trend in our life whereby we more and more choose to submit to his authority and his leadership in our life.
Slide 1
Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness. Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him there is no cause for stumbling. 1 John 2:9,10 (ESV)

If we allow hate to reside in our life, then we are not walking with God as he wants us to. We cannot allow hate to continue in our heart and expect to experience fulfilling fellowship with God. We will stumble in our walk through life by allowing hate to abide in us.
Slide 1
For all that is in the world – the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life – is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires but whoever does the will of God abides forever. 1 John 2:16,17 (ESV)

Our love should be directed toward God and not the enticements of this world like possessions, position, popularity, power, or personal gratification. The things of this world are only temporary. If we do God’s will, we will enjoy fellowship with him forever.
